Founds the Karlheinz Miklin Trio with Ewald Oberleitner (b) and Brüning von Alten (d), one of the first Saxophone-trios without chord instrument of the time.

Started appearances as band leader with musicians like Albert Mangelsdorff, Art Farmer, Enrico Rava, Horace Parlan, Mel Lewis, Kenny Washington, Barre Phillips, Chuck Israels...and singers like Sheila Jordan, Mark Murphy, Andy Bey, Michele Hendricks...
Initiator and director of the concert series "Graz Meeting" (until 2002), bringing together international guests with students and teachers of the Jazz Department Graz in over a hundred concerts.
Founding of the "Karlheinz Miklin Quartet" with Harry Pepl (g), Ron Mc Clure (b), Billy Hart (d); from 1989 on with Fritz Pauer (p) and occasionally Victor Lewis or Adam Nussbaum (d)

Born 1946 in Klagenfurt.
Grew up in Bleiburg (Southern Carinthia) in a musical environment. Later student of the "Realgymnasium" and the Conservatory Klagenfurt, where he studied piano and harmony.
Autodidact on the saxophone, the bass and the accordion, playing folk- and dance music and singing in a choir were among his first musical activities.
